Bio

Seema Tikare has lived and traveled throughout the world, and traces her wanderlust back to her earliest years, in India and in America’s deep south.

She spent two years in Germany as an exchange student and speaks German fluently.  She subsequently received degrees from the University of Georgia, University of Virginia, learned some French by living in France and dropped out of the doctoral program at MIT to pursue a career in International Development. In this role, her wanderlust grew as she worked and traveled in such far flung places as Albania and Nepal, Indonesia and Uganda, Mali and Macedonia.  She’s even lived for a year in Mongolia.

Needless to say, Seema immersed herself in the culinary and beverage offerings in those countries, honing not only her sense of smell and taste, but her ability to fully enjoy the wonder – and variety – of wine.

More recently, she graduated with distinction from the Boston University Wine Studies program. Under the tutelage of William Nesto, MW, she has developed an intellectual curiosity about all aspects of the wine industry. He has especially guided her on a more extensive study of the wines of Italy. Her recent travels have included explorations of the Val di Noto in Sicily, an intensive week in Chianti Classico to learn about the harvest and crush, and a two month project in Castellina in Chianti with the revered Fonterutoli winery.

This year, she will be traveling with Bill to the Val di Mazara in Sicily and to Piedmont to learn about wines from these historic, iconic regions. She will also be spending the summer in Languedoc, a region increasingly recognized for the quality of its wines and for its winemakers’ forward-thinking responses to the very real challenges of climate change in Europe.

“Accept what life offers you and try to drink from every cup. All wines should be tasted; some should only be sipped, but with others, drink the whole bottle.” ― Paulo Coelho
